Despite it s setting, there s an oddly foreign feel to L.A. Street Racing. It s partially because of the laughably shoddy English used by your street racing rivals in the game, but more than that, it s because you get the feeling when playing LASR that the developers have never really been to Los Angeles before. The result is a game that isn t bereft of high points the feel of the cars being one of them but also isn t able to transcend its numerous inadequacies.

The presentation in Bold Moves is straightforward and unglamorous. The cars themselves look fine, and there are no frame rate issues to complain about. The race environmentsmostly urban reproductions of Los Angeles and surrounding areasare dull, lifeless, and an absolute bore to look at (which, come to think of it, is a pretty apt description of downtown LA). Even the more rural tracks are repetitive and devoid of any kind of background movement that would help keep this game visually interesting. Worse yet, its a racing game with no visible sense of speed. Even the most powerful cars in the game offer little, if any, thrill and are characterized more by their slippery handling than by their sheer power.

You will slowly mold your vehicle into a finely tuned racing machine, capable of taking anything on the streets, but it won to be easy. There are many other racers out there with these same aspirations, willing to do whatever it takes to get the checkered flag.
