Between 1942 and 1944 the British Air Force dropped dozens of agents of the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) above Dutch territory. These - Dutch - officers were tasked with the Dutch resistance to build an underground army of 1100 men. This operation was called: Plan for Holland. All of the agents that were dropped in May 1942 got immediately arrested by the Germans as soon as they landed. Their radiotransmitters were used by the Germans to send useless information to the British. London ignored this Englandspiel or Operation Northpole, well into 1943. They continued to send goods and drop agents, but they all fell into German hands. Over fifty agents lost their lives this way.
